Weekly Update 9/24/2020

Message from the Principal

Dear Families,

Week two is under our belt and students continue to settle in and adapt to the new routines and protocols we have in place.  The Flu clinic at Ashaway is scheduled for October 26th.  More information will follow on how to register.  When picking up your child from school during dismissal, please send in a Golden Rod form indicating who is picking up your child.  Any change in that routine will require a new form with the new information.  I have included information below about attendance, the daily self check form and school picture day.

Open House

Ashaway School will be hosting a Virtual Open House on September 28th from 6:00-7:30.  Classroom teachers will be sending out specific information with times and links for families to access.

Our School Committee approved an amendment to our attendance policy on 9/22/2020. Please note an in-person learner may only access distance learning if they are experiencing symptoms, are under quarantine, or tested positive for COVID 19. Any other absence that is not noted in our exempt absences definitions will be a non-exempt absence. Families cannot access distance learning to attend appointments or to take trips. Reach out to your schools if you need additional information. Please click here to review the policies: Attendance Policy  Attendance Policy Amendment- COVID

Lunch Applications

Great News! We are now able to offer free meals to all students under the age of 18 regardless of eligibility through December 31, 2020.  However, we do still need you to complete your free and reduced lunch application for the school year.  Please click here to access the Meal applications. You can now send a picture of the completed form and send it to kerri.fisher@chariho.k12.ri.us  via a photo. Click here for information on FREE Breakfast and Lunch for ALL in School and Remote Learning Students.

Please remember to fill out the daily Self Check if your child is coming to school for in person learning.  See below for more information:

Daily Self- Check

Parents will submit a COVID -19 Health Check for each of their children on a Daily basis in PowerSchool. *Students will not be able to submit a COVID-19 Health Check using their account. Parents please do not login using your child’s PowerSchool account as the COVID-19 Health Check will not function.  A Parent/guardian will log into PowerSchool from a computer at: https://ps.chariho.k12.ri.us/public/  . If parents/guardians do not have an account they will need to create an account and link their children. Parents will receive a web access letter supplied by their child’s school for each of their children if applicable. If a parent/guardian is using the PowerSchool Mobil app, they will need to go to the daily bulletin to access the link for the COVID-19 Health Check.

If your child, their sibling, or a family member in the home are experiencing symptoms on the daily self check all children should remain home until the family member or sibling receives a negative test. The RI Department of Health has created a testing site for all students and staff  PK-12. To schedule a COVID-19 test call 1-844-857-1814. The line is available 7 days a week 7:30 AM- 9:30 PM. Please note that this service line is only for staff and students who have symptoms, have been identified as a close contact of a positive case, or are a classmate/staff member of a positive case. Using the K-12 educator student test sites will ensure your results are returned within 48 hours.

If you are having difficulty accessing the site and completing the health check, please call the school and we will be happy to assist.  Thank you again to everyone who has been filling out the form daily.

Lifetouch Picture Day

Life touch Picture Day is scheduled for October 5th.  Families enrolled in Distance Learning will be able to sign up for a time slot between the hours of 3:30 and 5:15 PM on October 5th.  Information on how to sign up for a time will be forthcoming.

Wishing you all a restful and peaceful weekend!
