FLU CLINIC ASHAWAY SCHOOL
There will be a FREE flu vaccine clinic at Ashaway Elementary School on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4-7pm. All are welcome.
Here’s some important information about the FREE flu vaccine clinic:
• Register online at schoolflu.com to schedule an appointment.
• Online registration is required to ensure the availability of the vaccine, walk-ins will be limited.
• Insurance information will be collected, but the vaccine is FREE whether you have insurance or not.
The flu is a serious, highly contagious, and sometimes deadly disease. Catching the flu means missing days of work and school. You might even have to spend time in the hospital. Don’t take the risk — the flu vaccine is your best protection against the flu.
For more information, visit health.ri.gov/flu/, or call the Department of Health’s information line at 401-222- 5960.
PARENT PICK UP
Parents/guardians who wish to pick up their child from school must complete a yellow (Golden Rod) Dismissal Form and send it to school with their child. Parents/guardians are asked to notify us in writing of your dismissal plans. If your child is an everyday walker or bus student, then one note to the teacher during the first few days of school is sufficient. If at anytime you need to make changes to the pick of your child, please complete a new form and send it in. If you need more golden rod forms, please send in a note to your child’s teacher and we will send some home. We do not accept changes over the phone. Please reach out to the school office with questions or clarifications.
MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURE
Parents dropping off their children to school will enter the campus making the first right off of Hillside Ave. Drive all the way around to the back off the school and stop at the first set of cones. Students will unload at the second door of the gym at the end of the building. There is room for three vehicles inside the designated drop off area. Students will unload and the next three vehicles will pull forward and repeat. In order to keep the line moving in a safe and timely manner, students should remain in the vehicles until they unload. If you would like your child to ride the bus please fill out the Transportation Registration Form.
AFTERNOON PARENT PICK UP
Parents picking up their children from school will enter the campus making the first right off of Hillside Ave. Drive all the way around to the back off the school and stop at the first set of cones. In order to alleviate a back up of traffic onto Hillside Avenue and Route 3 in the afternoon, please try to not leave a large amount of space between your car and the car in front of you. Once the line reaches Hillside Avenue, cars pulling in will be directed to begin a second line. Teachers will walk students to their respective cars. Staff members may ask for a photo ID, so please have it available. Parent Pick up Placard cards that were used last year will be used again. Any family who needs a placard should contact the main office. All vehicles should remain parked until all students are safely inside their vehicle. Please do not attempt to pull out of line and make a U-turn. The entire process has been taking about 10 minutes. In order to maintain a safe and orderly dismissal, adults should remain in the vehicles unless they need to assist with loading children. Thank your for your patience and cooperation.
SCHOOL LUNCH/SNACK
Ashaway school is designated as a peanut free and tree nut free school. There are multiple students in various grade levels with severe allergies.
Background Information: There is a difference between peanuts and tree nuts that causes them to be separately labeled. Tree nuts are known as "true nuts" which grow from trees. Hazel nuts, cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts, hickory nuts, etc. are examples of tree nuts.
-
“Peanut Free” means no food products containing peanuts or peanut by-products (oils, etc.) will be permitted in the entire school. This includes snacks within the classroom.
-
No cafeteria foods will be sold or prepared by the school that contain peanuts or peanut by-products.
-
Parents/guardians/volunteers visiting any classroom will be asked to implement specific cleaning and/or personal hygiene protocols (hand washing, etc.) .
Thank you for respecting this policy and helping to maintain a safe school environment for all the children.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Scanapieco
